Introduction
In 2009 the first symposium on immune compromised traveller took place in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and since was held with an interval of about two years ( see archive).
Our intention is to continue the symposium biannually.
Aim
The aim of EUMICT is to improve medical knowledge concerning the immune compromised traveller and subsequently safer travelling for this population. Also EUMICT aims to facilitate networking and cooperation to promote research in this field.
Background
Medical counseling for travellers with an altered immunity is challenging, because data and evidence based guidelines for this growing population are (very) limited or lacking. In general, guidelines for the immunocompetent traveller are followed, but great uncertainties about protective immunisation, adverse events, reactivation of underlying disease and other preventive measures remain. Thus, there is a great need for a regular update concerning new developments on this subject. Because data on immune compromised traveller are limited, the scope of the EUMICT also includes immunisation of the immune compromised host. New insights on immunisation in this population can be extrapolated to the international traveller.
Target audience
The target audience are medical professionals involved in health counceling for the immune compromised traveller, e.g. medical doctors, medical specialists, (advanced) nurse practisioners and policy makers within the European Union region of Maastricht, being the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg, but of course professionals outside this region are also more than welcome to share their knowledge and thoughts on this topic.
Scientific Committee
The scientific program of EUMICT is composed by an international scientific committee, which members originate from several institutes within the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and faculty within the EU-region.
Organisation
The EUMICT is organised and coordinated by the Section Infectious Diseases, Department of Medical Microbiology, Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC+), Maastricht, the Netherlands.
6th EUMICT 2022
The 6th EUMICT 2022 is integrated into the 8th Northern European Conference on Travel Medicine (NECTM8), which will take place from 8 to 10 June 2020 in
“De Doelen International Conference Center”, Schouwburgplein 50, 3012 CL, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
